ROSE
WINDOWS
Expressive marks, lacing ornamented designs, and luminously layered graphics fill Garubba’s paintings, printworks, and fused glass that make up the Rose Window project. It is a body of work utilizing architectural design elements in abstract compositions vaguely illustrative of human biology. They suggest the underlying structures that make up all humans, and hint at the function and fragility of the human body.
This project marks a transformational moment in Garubba's art and life, as it was born out of a personal loss that intensely shifted his attitudes and focus. The work is an expression of meditations on the fleetingness of human life, and an openness to expanded definitions of spirit and family.
